You can be fine in the grocery store until you see something they used to buy. Fine in the car until a song comes on. Fine at work until someone casually asks how you are doing. Then suddenly you are somewhere completely different emotionally. Grief has very little respect for schedules.

GRIEF & LOSS : Grief changes ordinary moments.

People grieve marriages. Friendships. Pregnancies. Parents who are still alive but no longer able to be the parent they once were. A version of themselves that existed before something happened. A home. A career. A future they thought they were going to have. Sometimes you are grieving something other people do not even realize you lost. That can feel incredibly lonely.

Loss is not limited to death.

People may begin checking on you less. Life starts moving again for everyone else. But your world has changed. Birthdays arrive. Anniversaries arrive. Holidays arrive. Good things happen and your first instinct is still to tell the person who is no longer there. At Renna Counseling, grief does not need to be rushed toward a conclusion. There is room for sadness. Anger. Relief. Confusion. Love. Regret. Even laughter. You are allowed to miss someone and still experience joy. You are allowed to move forward without pretending the loss did not matter. The work is not necessarily learning how to “get over” what happened. Sometimes it is learning how to carry what mattered while continuing to build a life around the space it left behind.

There is no correct timeline.
